This isn’t just any solar pv array…. this is a Marks and Spencer solar pv array.

The retail giant have joined the growing numbers of UK based businesses investing in to their own future and the future of renewable energy. A massive 24,000 solar panels are planned to be mounted to the roof of  Marks and Spencer’s Warehouse in Castle Donington.

The warehouse installation is geared up to be the UK’s largest roof mounted Solar pv  installation when work is completed in early 2015. The colossal array with almost completely cover the largely automated warehouse’s electricity requirements making it one of the most sustainable distribution centre in the UK if not the world.

This project has been revealed as just one of several green projects that the supermarket chain are planning to implement over the coming year. Its has been announced that the group has 2020 in its sights for 50% of energy used in their buildings to come from renewable energy sources.

With over 1,000 employees on site, this is the largest warehouse dedicated to e-commerce in the UK distributing products across the UK.

The development of this site as a solar plant is a massive boon for the solar industry showing that solar PV is a viable option for even large businesses looking to offset energy costs and save money.
