Mr Fothergill’s are a household name, or should we say a garden shed name. As one of the UK largest suppliers and stockists of seeds Mr Fothergill’s supply to both trade and public clients, with stockists in garden centres, commercial plant nurseries across the county Mr Fothergill’s have also started selling direct via their website and further afield to international companies.

Trading since the 1970’s Mr Fothergill’s have expanded and grown steadily over the past decades and decided to look at the best ways to sustainably continue that development.  A look at keeping overheads in check examined the fact that one cost in the running of the business had increased at a far higher rate than that of any other, electricity.  The rising cost of power has become more apparent to everyone in recent years and Mr Fothergill’s have taken a huge step into self sufficiency through Solar PV.

Looking at the governments Feed In Tariff, Mr Fothergill’s decided that Solar Energy would be the best way for their business to join the green revolution. After consultation Mr Fothergill’s selected a trusted MCS approved installer in Carmichael Browns.

Nearly 500 X 250W REC solar Modules were installed across 2 roofs to give a total of 124kWp as a system.

This installation will greatly reduce Mr Fothergill’s outgoing energy bills and make an even bigger impact on their carbon footprint. In addition to this Mr Fothergill’s can now see regular generation payments from the government’s Feed In Tariff scheme for producing and using their own sustainable energy on site, not only that but on days the business is closed they benefit further by exporting surplus energy back to the national grid for an added revenue stream.
